The word ‘Mushriqa’ also refers to the sun. When I was younger, I used to brush my curly hair and tie it back in a pony tail. In the mornings, it was put together but by the time I came back from school, the hairs around my face would always frizz. My uncle would refer to me as the sun, because my hair stood like its rays. It was an endearing term and I loved it. I have since embraced my crazy, beautiful and sometimes unmanageable hair because it is part of me and I love it!”
